Dr Lalon, an Assistant Professor of Communication Design at the School of Design, brings a unique blend of creativity, craftsmanship and pedagogical insight to his work. His interests and expertise lie at the intersection of design, creativity and education. He specialises in toy design, craft innovation and the development of edutainment content. Skilled in working with a wide range of materials, including bamboo, kauna grass, leather, textiles and terracotta, Dr Lalon thoughtfully integrates traditional craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities. His research focuses on introducing creativity to children through video-based learning and activity-oriented education aligned with NEP 2020.

At Anant, Dr Lalon contributes his extensive expertise in design and education to the Communication Design programme. His role involves mentoring students to develop creative and technical skills, preparing them to become solutionaries who design and implement equitable and sustainable solutions. Aligned with the University’s mission to bridge contemporary socio-economic challenges through design thinking, Dr Lalon strives to inspire students to address critical issues with innovative, sustainable solutions.

Dr Lalon holds a PhD from the National Institute of Design (NID), with research focused on fostering creativity and design thinking in children through video-based learning. He has a postgraduate specialisation in Toy Design from NID and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Indira Kala Sangeet University. His scholarly contributions include numerous research papers on innovative educational approaches and skill-based learning models.

His participatory and experiential approach emphasises ‘learning by doing’, encouraging creative exploration through storytelling, design thinking and collaborative problem-solving. His teaching style fosters a head-heart-hands model, integrating cognitive, emotional and practical learning for holistic education.

Beyond his academic and research pursuits, Dr Lalon is deeply engaged in various creative fields. He has anchored and produced different video content to foster creativity among young audiences. His involvement in theatre includes conducting workshops at institutions like the Goa Institute of Management, where he emphasises the role of performance arts in personal and professional development.

Additionally, Dr Lalon has collaborated with Girgit Studios to create short films and videos, further showcasing his versatility in visual storytelling. These endeavours highlight his commitment to using diverse media to inspire and educate, extending his impact beyond traditional academic settings.
