India is home to different handicrafts and vernacular design narratives, most embedded with a layer of sustainability. Traditional artisans are known for optimisation of materials consumption, reducing waste and using natural materials. INDIC (Indian designs and Innovative Crafts) Centre at Anant National University aims to contemporise the ancient crafts industry to adapt to the needs of a changing marketplace. It seeks to bridge the gap between the demand for well-designed, modern artefacts and the craftsmen’s skills through design, education, training and documentation of vernacular designs.

• Documentation of Indian designs and crafts, publishing and dissemination

• Build, manage and scale a repository of samples & techniques as design case studies

• Offer support through design, packaging, pricing and product promotion strategies

• Act as a facilitator for Design and Architecture students to take up classroom projects with crafts persons

• To facilitate the immersion and field training of students in craft ecosystems

• To facilitate skill upgradation of women artisans
