What a year it’s been! From new beginnings to proud milestones, here’s a quick round-up of the moments that mattered and achievements that shaped Anant in 2025.
The year was a year of growth and momentum for Anant National University, shaped by significant achievements and meaningful new beginnings. From landmark firsts and an expanding global and local community to student-led innovations, vibrant festivals, impactful symposiums and dynamic collaborations, the year was rich with learning and engagement. Together, these milestones reaffirmed Anant’s steadfast commitment to inclusive, creative and future-focused education that empowers students to address real-world challenges with purpose and innovation.
Anant’s Now a Centre of Excellence
Anant was recognised as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) by the Government of Gujarat, reaffirming our resolve to lead with purpose and to inspire the next generation of leaders, innovators and solutionaries. Anant joined an elite list of nine other renowned universities and institutions, further establishing its status as a pioneer in education.
Leadership in Transition
The Anant community expressed deepest gratitude to Dr Anunaya Chaubey for his visionary leadership that not only shaped Anant into a vibrant and dynamic institution but also positioned it as a Centre of Excellence. From launching ADEPT, India’s first and only multi-lingual design entrance test, and introducing the country’s first undergraduate BTech in Climate Change programme, to establishing the Centre for Public Policy Research and Design and the Centre of Design Education for Schools, these initiatives have redefined educational innovation. Dr Chaubey’s legacy at Anant will continue to inspire us to strive for excellence and innovation.
Anant welcomed Dr Sanjeev Vidyarthi as the new Provost. An architect, urban designer, spatial planner, scholar, author and leader, Dr Vidyarthi led the founding of the first and only standalone school of architecture in Rajasthan, the Aayojan School of Architecture. He also served as Director of Undergraduate Studies and Head of the Department of Urban Planning and Policy at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He brings a wealth of expertise and a proven legacy of leadership to Anant, and we are sure that under his mentorship, Anant will continue to scale new heights and make a lasting impact on the world.
Infrastructural Milestone: World-Class Campus Living
Mr Ajay Piramal, President, Anant National University, inaugurated Anant’s newest building, Faculty and Graduate Housing, on 1 September 2025 in the presence of key members of the university leadership. The new residence, designed by acclaimed Rushabh Parekh Design Studio (RPDS), has a built-up area of 26,475 square metres and comprises 172 apartments, including studio apartments and 1, 2 and 3 BHK homes. It also features thoughtfully designed common spaces, a gymnasium, yoga room, café and a visitor’s lounge.
With this expansion, Anant National University reaffirmed its commitment to providing state-of-the-art infrastructure to facilitate world-class learning, while also contributing to the mission of Viksit Bharat through design-driven innovation and excellence.
Convocation 2025: From Classrooms to Convocation Robes
Anant hosted the 7th Convocation, conferring degrees on 299 students from the Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Design, Anant Fellowship in Sustainability and Built Environment, MSc in Sustainability and Built Environment and Anant Fellowship for Climate Action. Padma Shri awardee and Chief Scientist and Co-founder of Zoho Corporation, Dr Sridhar Vembu, was the Chief Guest. Mr Ajay Piramal, President, Anant National University, Dr Sanjeev Vidyarthi, Provost, Anant National University, and the members of the board were present during the convocation.
Among the 299 graduates, Aarambh Incubation Centre offered grants in terms of IPR and process facilitation to over 30 students and grants for POC and Prototype to over 10 students. 92 students secured placements through Anant’s Career Services Office. Amid proud smiles, teary eyes and heartfelt hugs, the campus brimmed with memories and hopes for the future.
Mooo-ing Along: Moving Image Fest in Focus
Anant launched Mooo-1.0, an international moving image festival for students. Through live-action filmmaking, animation, sound design, text-based storytelling and emerging media technologies, the fest offered an immersive and transformative learning experience for students, encouraging them to view cinema as an evolving language that blends creative expression with technology. Reputed names from the world of cinema, including Gailė Cijūnaitytė, an interdisciplinary artist from VilAA, Lithuania; Prof Gintarė Valevičiūtė Brazauskienė, artist and Associate Professor at Vilnius Academy of the Arts, Lithuania; Prof Isabel Herguera, animation director and educator, KHM, Germany, attended the fest.
Tradition Meets Innovation: Collaborative Studio
Anant hosted Collaborative Studio, a series of 10 interdisciplinary workshops, bringing together artisans, experts and faculty to help Anant’s design students engage deeply with India’s vast Indigenous knowledge heritage. The featured workshops included Bastar’s ironwork, Madhubani papier-mâché, lacquered woodcraft of Madhya Pradesh, Kutch’s leatherwork, sustainable fashion, designing resilient villages and reviving Kashmir’s musical heritage. As part of the studio, design students visited Alwar and the Chambal region, working with Dr Rajendra Singh, Professor of Practice, Anant National University, to witness firsthand how indigenous knowledge and community-driven initiatives have impacted millions of lives.

This year, Anant’s commitment to excellence in education, research and design-led innovation was recognised through several prestigious awards and accolades. Anant was honoured with the prestigious ‘5-Star Rating’ in the category of Architecture and a ‘4-Star Rating’ in the University category, reinforcing our commitment to creating a world-class institution of great eminence and excellence.
ET Now Best Education Brands 2025
Anant was also recognised at the ET Now Best Education Brands 2025 as industry trailblazer epitomising quality, stature and trust and are revered within the education sector. Prof Sekhar Mukherjee, Professor and Programme Lead, Moving Image, School of Design, accepted the trophy on behalf of the university.
Most Preferred Workplace 2025-26
Our efforts towards excellence were recognised nationally, as Anant was honoured by the EducationWorld India Higher Education Rankings 2025-26 Awards in the Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Champion category. The University continues to deepen collaborations with universities, NGOs, government bodies and industry, while welcoming new partners who strengthen our commitment to offering world-class education.
a) MoU Signing with Whitecliffe Group, New Zealand
Expanding its global footprint, Anant joined hands with Whitecliffe Group (New Zealand) by signing an MoU. This partnership aims to drive innovation, international exchange and excellence in design, creative arts and education. Our then Provost, Dr Anunaya Chaubey, Mr Feroz Ali, Director, Whitecliffe Group and Prof Harita Kapur, Lecturer at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, New Zealand were present during the signing of the MoU.
b) NAMTECH @ Anant
Dignitaries from NAMTECH, Anant’s sister institution, visited Anant to explore design curriculum and develop collaborative research. Led by Maulik Bhagat, Board Member, NAMTECH, the team included Valerie Mulvin, Ruth O’Herlihy, Coran O’Connor and Alok Kher from McCullough Mulvin Architects; Michael O’Brien and John Bynum from ARUP and Sohrab Dalal from DesignPlus Architecture, among others. The delegation also interacted with Dr Sanjeev Vidyarthi, Provost, Anant National University, expressing appreciation for Anant’s efforts in providing a supportive learning environment, concluding the visit with a campus tour.
c) Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College, Israel, delegation visits Anant
A team of academicians from Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College, Israel, including Yael Catalan, Director of International Office, Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College; Doron Altaratz, Director of Photographic Communications Department, Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College, visited Anant to explore the academic environment and possibilities of future collaborations in design and research. The visit was part of the ongoing collaboration under the MoU between Anant and Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College (JMC), formerly known as Hadassah Academic College (HAC).
d) MoU Signing with Vilnius Academy of Arts (VDA)
Anant and VDA signed an MoU to strengthen collaborations by fostering hybrid cultural and academic exchanges among faculty, students and staff. This partnership will pave the way for co-creation, applied research, joint programmes, festival exchanges, joint publications and active participation in the storytelling festival. The MoU was signed by Dr Anunaya Chaubey, Provost, in the presence of Vilnius team members Prof Gintarė Valevičiūtė-Brazauskienė and Ms Margarita, Prof Sekhar Mukherjee, Professor and Programme Lead, Moving Image, Prof Amitabh Pandey, Professor and Lead, Communication Design, School of Design and Director, Foundation Studies and other leadership team members.
e) FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), Ahmedabad Chapter
Anant signed an MoU with FICCI FLO (FICCI Ladies Organisation). Facilitated by Aarambh Incubation Centre, the MoU aims to empower and promote women entrepreneurs by fostering a supportive and instructive environment for building their ventures. The collaboration will also nurture women-led start-ups through initiatives such as the ‘She Rises’ programme, mentoring sessions with industry experts on business growth and market strategies and collaboratively exploring new opportunities to advance women’s entrepreneurship at national and global levels.
g) MoU signing with Maithri Aquatech Pvt Ltd
Anant entered into an MoU with Maithri Aquatech Pvt Ltd to establish a collaborative framework focused on Atmospheric Water Generation (AWG), decentralised water solutions and climate-resilient technologies. The partnership will enable joint research, student internships and field immersions, installation of demonstration AWG units on campus, pilots in climate-stressed regions and support for student-led innovation and entrepreneurship in climate and water technologies.
h) Mou signing with Saath Charitable Trust
Anant, through the Anant School for Climate Action, partnered with Saath Charitable Trust by signing an MoU aimed at studying the effects of climate change on livelihoods, health and habitats in Ahmedabad’s informal communities. The MoU was signed by Dr Sanjeev Vidyarthi, Provost, Anant National University and Mr Rajendra Joshi, Managing Trustee, Saath Charitable Trust.
Student Success Stories
Throughout the year, Anant students continued to excel across academic, creative and professional platforms. From national and international competitions to research, internships and industry collaborations, their achievements reflect the strength of Anant’s pedagogy that nurtures curiosity, critical thinking and real-world impact.
a) Anant Students Win Big at IIT-B’s Mood Indigo 2024
At IIT Bombay’s Mood Indigo 2024, 161 Anant students excelled in national-level competitions, winning first, second and third places in photography, story writing and character design, respectively. Anant’s Music Club ranked among India’s top 20 bands. Anant proudly placed 1st among Ahmedabad institutions, 17th overall and 20th in the contingent leaderboard rankings.
b) Live-Action Project ‘Samman’ wins at the 7th International Conference on Sustainable Education, New Delhi
The Live-Action Project ‘Samman’ by Anant Fellows, Ankit Singh and Yashwardhan Bansal, from the Cohort of 2025 of the Anant Fellowship in Sustainability and Built Environment, emerged as top winners in the Senior Category of the Youth for Earth (Y4E) Campaign at the 7th International Conference on Sustainable Education, New Delhi, earning a cash award of Rs 25,000.
c) Centre of Visual Arts students at Kochi-Muziris Biennale and Marina Abramović Institute (MAI)
From the Centre of Visual Arts, 10 Bachelor of Visual Arts students and 4 students with Visual Arts as minor, participated in the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, supporting national and international artists with their installations. Yadvee Bareja and Atharva Karkare were selected by the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI) for a Performance Art workshop, led by the MAI Director. Additionally, Atharva was chosen to join the performance team of Portugal-based artist Mónica de Miranda.
d) Saina Shankar shines at 16th Toy Biz International B2B Exhibition – New Delhi
Saina Shankar, a 5th-semester Product Design student with a minor in Health and Wellbeing, was proudly awarded the 3rd Prize by the Honourable Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt Rekha Gupta, at the 16th Toy Biz International B2B Exhibition – New Delhi, India’s largest trade fair for the toy industry. She showcased her innovative projects at the exhibition, graced by dignitaries, including Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
e) Gunikaa Agarwal, a Graduate of the Class of 2024, secured admission to Arizona State University (ASU)
Gunikaa Agarwal, a Graduate of the Class of 2024 with Communication Design as major and Moving Image as minor, secured admission to Arizona State University (ASU) for an MS in User Experience. Gunikaa will be a part of a 2-year full-time programme that focuses on key areas such as user research, usability, system engineering, interaction design and digital product development, all rooted in a human-centred approach.
f) Palash Pradhan, a Graduate of the Class of 2024, secured admission at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, Germany
Palash Pradhan, a Graduate of the Class of 2024 with Interaction Design as major and Moving Image as minor, secured admission for the MSc Design Leadership programme at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, Germany.
g) Devendra Parmar, a PhD Scholar, was invited to ‘Expand North Star GITEX Global’ at Dubai Harbour
An Aarambh incubated start-up, Loop Robotics Technologies LLP, by Devendra Parmar, a PhD scholar at Anant National University, was invited to showcase its next-generation AI-driven Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) at ‘Expand North Star GITEX Global’, the world’s largest tech and start-up exhibition held at Dubai Harbour. The project received support from Anant’s Aarambh Incubation Centre in the form of a Rs 2.5 Lakh SSIP grant for the development of the product, along with access to resources such as a stall exhibition at last year’s Vibrant Gujarat.
Sporting Excellence
Anant students showed exemplary skills and grit on the field, winning championships, medals and trophies through teamwork and confidence. These engagements underscore Anant’s commitment to holistic development, where physical well-being complements academic rigour and helps build character, leadership and community spirit.
a) Frisbee Team Debuts at 6th National College Ultimate Championship
Anant’s Frisbee team, JusDisc League, made a proud debut at the 6th National College Ultimate Championship (NCUC), competing against 11 colleges from across India. Playing five intense matches, the team displayed heart, grit and unwavering spirit, qualities that earned them the Most Spirited Team Award at NCUC 2025. They were guided by the coaches Dhanu Pillai and Shubham Sharma, making this achievement a true testament to teamwork, resilience and the Anant spirit.
b) Women’s Table Tennis Team won the Champion Trophy at Concours 2025
Anant National University’s Women’s Table Tennis Team has won the Champion Trophy at Concours 2025, the national-level inter-college sports fest organised by Dhirubhai Ambani University (DAU). The winning team included Charmi Patel, a BArch student from the Class of 2027, Utra Thakkar, a BDes Space Design student from the Class of 2028, with a Minor in Graphic Design and Deepti Marella, a BDes Foundation Year student.
c) 4th Edition of the Interdisciplinary Football Tournament (IDFT)
The 4th Edition of the Inter-Disciplinary Football Tournament (IDFT) wrapped up with total energy and excitement. Team IXD FC took home the trophy after an epic showdown against last year’s champs, COMICC FC. With 8 teams (including one with our faculty and staff) battling it out on the field, the matches were packed with passion, teamwork and a whole lot of drama. And because no match day is complete without good food and cool merchandise, students set up amazing stalls serving tasty bites and exclusive goodies.
d) First Ever Chess Tournament
Anant hosted its first-ever Anant Chess Tournament, with over 45 players battling it out in Blitz and Rapid categories. The tournament saw intense games, unexpected upsets and many first-timers stepping confidently into the world of chess. Students from across programmes participated in the tournament, making it an instant hit with the chess enthusiasts.
e) Badminton Tournament
𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘚𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘐𝘴𝘊𝘰𝘰𝘭 Batch 2 brought a lively evening of the Badminton Tournament! Participants gathered for an exciting game, fostering teamwork and creativity in an informal and fun setting. The game encouraged light-hearted competition while offering a chance for them to relax, bond and enjoy the evening in a social atmosphere.

Anant has a great mix of faculty from across the world with diverse backgrounds and years of academic and industry experience.
a) Prof Ali Vaughan, California-based artist
Anant hosted California-based artist Prof Ali Vaughan, known for her work across different mediums, for a 5-day workshop on Contemporary Methods in Drawing as part of the School of Architecture’s electives. The workshop emphasised abstract and non-representational drawings, encouraging creative expression through experimentation with materials, textures and unconventional techniques like erasure, layering and 3D drawings.
b) Prof Gintarė Valevičiūtė Brazauskienė, Associate Professor, Vilnius Academy of the Arts (VAA)
Anant hosted Prof Gintarė Valevičiūtė Brazauskienė, Associate Professor, Vilnius Academy of the Arts (VAA) and Margarita Valionytė, Assisting Educator and artist, for a 5-day creative workshop on ‘Memory in Motion: Intercultural Layers and Documentary Animation’. The workshop theoretically explored both traditional animation methods, such as traditional 2D animation, rotoscope, cut-out animation, etc., and innovative approaches while experimenting with modern technologies to expand creative possibilities.
c) Dr Aarati Kanekar, Professor, The College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP), University of Cincinnati, USA
Anant’s School of Architecture hosted a session by Dr Aarati Kanekar, Professor, The College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), University of Cincinnati, USA titled ‘Narrative and Spatial Sequence.’ The session was part of SoA Lecture Series 2025. During the session, Dr Kanekar addressed the idea of events and movements in relation to time and experience in both literature and cinema with architecture through different projects, including the Danteum by Terragni, Parc de la Villette by Tschumi, Soundbox by Zumthor, etc.
d) Dr Venkat Iyer, barrister and academic at Ulster University, Northern Ireland
Anant recently hosted Dr Venkat Iyer, a barrister and academic at Ulster University, Northern Ireland, for a session on ‘Intellectual Property Regimes for Indigenous Knowledge Systems’. Dr Iyer specialises in media, constitutional and business law. A former Law Commissioner in Northern Ireland, he advises governments, teaches globally and consults on legal reforms.
e) Mr Feroz Ali, Director of Whitecliffe Group
Anant recently signed an MoU with Whitecliffe Group, one of New Zealand’s leading degree-granting private colleges. Mr Feroz Ali, Director of Whitecliffe Group, who was present during the signing event, talked about the exciting benefits this collaboration brings for both universities. The MoU enables our students, faculty and the broader community to benefit from guest lectures, workshops, cultural exchanges and internship opportunities in the design and creative industries.
f) Prof Sonajharia Minz, academic, mathematician and former Vice Chancellor of Sido Kanhu Murmu University
Prof Sonajharia Minz, an academic, mathematician and former Vice Chancellor of Sido Kanhu Murmu University, was part of the International Conference on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices: Designing Sustainable Futures, held at Anant. She talked about Anant’s ‘DesignX’ concept, which integrates multiple disciplines and offers students the unique opportunity to harness their passions while exploring future possibilities.
g) John Quigley, aerial artist and Founder, Spectral Q
John Quigley, aerial artist and Founder, Spectral Q, was part of the International Conference on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices: Designing Sustainable Futures, held at Anant. He talked about how the international conference encouraged a dialogue on bringing traditional knowledge back into focus to design a society that balances the need to grow and sustain without hurting the environment.
h) Dr Leland S McGee, Penn GSE – AFCA Immersion
Dr Leland S McGee, Adjunct Assistant Professor at Penn GSE and Senior Associate Director at the GSE Office of Student Success, University of Pennsylvania, conducted an insightful workshop during an intensive 10-day on-campus immersion for the Cohort of 2025 from the Anant Fellowship for Climate Action. The workshop was titled ‘Unlearning Design Thinking for Human-Centric Policy Making’.
Spotlight Events
Anant hosted a range of remarkable events featuring distinguished national and international personalities. These engagements enriched the academic and cultural life of the campus and contributed significantly to the University’s growing list of milestones.
a) International Conference on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices
The International Conference on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices: Designing Sustainable Futures was Anant’s unique initiative to reinforce the importance of integrating Indigenous knowledge with contemporary scientific approaches to drive sustainability across all aspects of life. It was led by then Provost Dr Anunaya Chaubey and Professor of Practice Dr Rajendra Singh, which featured keynotes by Prof Sonajharia Minz and Prof Rishi Narain Singh, alongside research presentations from global experts.
b) WITH Festival 2025
The 3rd edition of the WITH festival, themed ‘Borderless – Global Indigenous Futures’, celebrated Indigenous storytelling through diverse cultural performances, simultaneously taking place in Quito (Ecuador), Miami (USA) and São Paulo (Brazil), with Anant hosting its Indian edition. The festival featured traditional Kashmiri folk performers, artists from Majuli, a skateboarder-rapper from Madhya Pradesh and a rock-fusion band from Meghalaya narrating Khasi stories, among others.
c) TEDx Anant National University
TEDxAnant National University brought together distinguished thought leaders, changemakers and sustainability experts. The speakers included Shri M Nagarajan, IAS, Gujarat Cadre and VC and MD, GSRTC; Mr Sajith Ansar, CEO and Founder of Unlimits.ai and Idea Spice Design, Dubai; Mr Kiran Vaghela, Founder and Director, Hunnarshala Foundation; and Ms Dinie van den Heuvel, a PhD student at Anant National University and Creative Director, Infantium Victoria, Brussels. Anant’s artist-in-residence, Ravice Rashid from Kashmir, delivered a soul-stirring performance. Themed Solutionaries, the event left participants with a renewed sense of purpose and will to create meaningful change in their communities and beyond.
d) ICERM Convening
Anant hosted the Indigenous Consciousness Education Research Methodology Convening on the campus. The convening was organised in collaboration with Penn Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE), which brought together scholars, education policy experts and practitioners to explore Indigenous Consciousness research methodologies. It also set the foundation for an India-based research project through dialogue, interactions, paper presentations, exhibitions and panel discussions. Distinguished dignitaries at the convening included Dr Diti Pundrik Vyas, Associate Professor, SCoPE, Anant National University and Dr Leland S McGee, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Penn GSE, University of Pennsylvania and Anant SCoPE Scholar, among others.
Visits from Prominent Personalities
Anant welcomed distinguished leaders, scholars, artists and professionals from India and across the world, which enriched campus life through meaningful interactions, knowledge-sharing sessions and engagements.
a) Adil Zainulbhai
Mr Adil Zainulbhai, Chairman, Capacity Building Commission, Government of India, and Governing Body member at Anant National University, visited the campus to engage with students and witness the upcoming state-of-the-art infrastructure. He also joined an interactive session with Dr Sanjeev Vidyarthi, Provost, Anant National University, 60 students, innovators and budding entrepreneurs. During the session, he urged the students to take responsibility for shaping Viksit Bharat @ 2047 and envision India’s future, inspiring them to actively contribute to the nation’s growth story.
b) Ar Hafeez Contractor
Padma Bhushan awardee and one of India’s most celebrated architects, Ar Hafeez Contractor, visited the Anant campus, exploring Anant’s upcoming state-of-the-art infrastructure, part of the University’s expansion to create a world-class, future-ready learning environment. He also interacted with BArch and BDes (Space Design) students, stressing the need for affordable housing while preserving farmlands and forests in urban planning.
c) Amit Chowdhury
Centre for Moving Image of Anant National University hosted a session titled ‘My Design Journey – A Retrospective’ by Amit Chowdhury, Designer and Design Leader. Amit reflected on his professional journey during this session, tracing its intersections with the evolving technology landscape. He shared key lessons, perspectives and insights aimed at helping students navigate their own design paths with clarity and confidence.
d) Ar Romil Sheth
Ar Romil Sheth, Principal Architect and Partner at the award-winning Sasaki Associates, visited Anant. Sasaki has played a pivotal role in shaping Anant’s evolving campus, having designed Academic Block 1 and Student Residence 1, and the forthcoming Academic Block 3, a one-of-a-kind Learning and Designing Hub spanning across 25,000 sq m. It has been designed as a unique multidisciplinary building that provides the scope for diverse teaching, learning and social activities to be conducted simultaneously.
Cultural Camaraderie on Campus

a) Festive Fervour
Anant celebrated the richness of India’s cultural diversity through festivals that filled the campus with colour, joy and togetherness. From the exuberance of Holi and the warmth of Diwali to the grace of Onam and the shared cheer of New Year celebrations, each festival was marked with enthusiasm and community spirit.

b) Community Cookouts
As part of Anant’s monthly initiative celebrating regional cuisines from the native places of its students, faculty, and staff, the University hosted Malwotsav in March, showcasing the culinary heritage of Madhya Pradesh with classics such as aromatic Dal Bafla, indulgent Mawa Batti, and flavourful kachori. This was followed by Rangilo Rajasthan in May, a vibrant celebration of the rich colours and cultural spirit of Rajasthan.
