Dr Anunaya Chaubey

Provost;
Director, Anant Fellowship;
Ph.D. in English Literature, Patna University;
Salzburg Global Fellow

Dr Anunaya Chaubey is the Provost at Anant National University, India’s first Design University imparting education in the fields of architecture, design, sustainability, climate action, culture and several liberal arts disciplines. He is a well-known artist and academic in the fields of literature and art history. A self-taught painter, illustrator and animator, his works explore the individual and communal worlds – mundane yet layered and subtly textured. Many of his paintings are to be found both in public and private collections all around the world.

Over the past ten years, he has taught courses on art appreciation connecting art with science, economics, entrepreneurship, environment, media and journalism at Salzburg Media Academy, Young India Fellowship, Naropa Fellowship, Vedica Scholars Programme, Harappa Education and Anant National University. These courses give an evolutionary account of the arts and provide a converging ground for ideas and concerns drawn from multiple subject domains and disciplines. Of late, he has been working on creating a course on poetry appreciation through a series of animation of poems in English and Hindi.

In addition, he has wide administrative experience in the education space and has contributed to several institution-building exercises in India and abroad. At Anant, he is focused on building a design university with a strong liberal arts foundation leveraging multiple perspectives to help students acquire the big contextual picture in which to practice their specialisation with impact. Before moving to Anant in 2019, he helped found Young India Fellowship at Ashoka University and served as its Deputy Dean for ten years. He has also served as Principal, Patna College of Arts and Crafts for seven years and as Secretary of Bihar Lalit Kala Akademi where he worked at the grassroots to document folk art traditions of visual arts in Bihar. In 2008, he was invited by the Government of Mauritius as a Visiting Fellow to set up the department of arts and crafts at Rabindranath Tagore Institute in Mauritius.

He has a Ph.D. in English Literature with a specialisation in modern poetry and criticism. Besides having taught these subjects for more than thirty years, Anunaya has also worked in the fields of journalism and advertising.
