About Anant Centre for Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices

The Centre for Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices aims to systematically document and preserve India’s rich and diverse indigenous knowledge systems, covering a wide range of areas such as Bhavan Nirman (traditional architecture), agriculture, water conservation and other cultural/ecological practices. The centre takes a scientific and organised approach to mapping both existing knowledge systems and those at risk of extinction, ensuring that these invaluable traditions are preserved and integrated into modern discourse and practice. Through this effort, the centre significantly contributes to safeguarding India’s heritage while exploring innovative solutions for contemporary challenges.

Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs)

  • Support ecological assessment through targeted water quality testing of selected peri-urban ponds and lakes.
  • Collect and test water samples for pH, DO, BOD, and COD.
  • Record biodiversity and ecological indicators.
  • Provide baseline datasets for integration into the geo-cultural maps.

Expected Outcome

A concise, reliable dataset on water quality and ecological health to complement cultural documentation.
