Sigrid Vasconez

Sociologist and environmental biologist,
Ex-Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Ecuador

Sigrid was the Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador from 2018 to 2020. She was responsible for civil society engagements on issues related to human rights. She also holds the position of Executive Secretary of the Amazon Regional Articulation. Since 2013, through a variety of positions, she has been involved in issues related to biodiversity in Ecuador and the Andean Amazon. From 2007 to 2013, she held the position of Head – Environment and Society for a large international NGO, Grupo Farros in Ecuador. Before that, she spent six years working for UNDP in Ecuador. Alongside her ongoing work in environment and biodiversity, she also taught at the University FLACSO, Ecuador and the Universidad San Francisco in Quito for several years. Her rich body of work spans 22 years, which includes extensive consultancy work with multilateral and bilateral cooperation agencies and a stint at the Ministry of Environment, Ecuador. She is a sociologist and environmental biologist and has a Master’s in Development Policy from the Institute of Social Studies in the Netherlands.
