Dr Matthew D Potts, a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University, is an Associate Professor at SJ Hall Chair in Forest Economics at the University of Berkeley. His specialisations include forest management, biofuels, plantation agriculture, land use planning, land use policy, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services, tropical ecology and environmental economics. His goal is to build a quantitative understanding of how to optimally achieve ecosystem service production and biodiversity conservation in multi-use landscapes. His work addresses unanswered, fundamental ecological questions while directly informing how to sustainably manage temperate and tropical ecosystems.
