Abhishek Choubey, an Assistant Professor at Anant National University, is passionate about utilising photography and videos as social and behavioural change tools. His research philosophy revolves around participatory projects conducted with children and young people in Bihar. The projects he has been working on aim to explore the potential of photography and videos in raising awareness within society, particularly among children, while also fostering an appreciation for the history and culture of their region.
At Anant, Abhishek leverages his expertise in photography to inspire and educate students. His primary focus is nurturing a new generation of photographers and filmmakers equipped to make a positive societal change through visual storytelling.
Abhishek has a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialisation in painting from Patna University and a Master’s Degree in Photography from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
Before joining Anant, Abhishek served as a visiting faculty at various institutions, including the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Maharaja Ranjitsinh Gaekwad Institute of Design, Vadodara and Banasthali Institute of Design. He taught courses on Film and Video, Product Photography, Fashion Photography and Printing Techniques during his tenure.
He has also worked extensively as a professional photographer and filmmaker for organisations like the UNFPA, UNICEF, Save the Children, Bihar Bal Bhawan and the Department of Human Resource Development, Government of Bihar.
Outside of academia, Abhishek is a multi-faceted individual with diverse interests. In addition to his passion for photography and filmmaking, he is trained in three different martial arts disciplines. Furthermore, he finds solace and joy in gardening, where he enjoys studying various species of plants and butterflies.
