This project investigates the potential of dignified and affordable on-site housing for migrant construction workers in Ahmedabad through context-sensitive, adaptable and community-driven design that enhances comfort and well-being. It explores how compact housing can achieve multi-functionality and thermal comfort while remaining affordable and easy to assemble, dismantle and transport. The project includes an in-depth study of various materials and case studies. The design blends traditional techniques with a modular system, balancing local knowledge and modern practicality. The project moves beyond technical design, serving as a human-centred response to displacement, and re-imagining temporary housing as a space of dignity, resilience and community.
