Required Education Qualification and Years of Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Sound Engineering, Audio/Visual Technology, or a related field. Certification in audio visual technologies or equivalent experience is a plus.

Key Responsible Areas (KRAs)

The AV Support Engineer/Technician is responsible for providing technical assistance and support for audio visual systems in university events, meetings, and other settings. This role ensures the smooth setup, operation, and troubleshooting of AV equipment, including sound, lighting, and video systems, both for in-person and virtual events. The technician will manage equipment maintenance, provide live support, and work closely with event organizers and technical staff to deliver seamless audio-visual experiences.

 

  • Help Desk Assistance: Serve as the primary point of contact for receiving and managing support requests related to audio visual equipment. Provide prompt responses to user inquiries, service tickets, and phone calls to resolve technical issues and user concerns.
  • Technical Support: Offer technical support to presenters, performers, and event organizers. Assist with connecting laptops, devices, and other equipment to the AV system, ensuring all technical needs are met. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues as required.
  • Sound Management: Handle audio tasks, including adjusting sound levels, mixing audio feeds, and ensuring clear, balanced sound quality throughout the venue. Manage microphones for speakers and presenters.
  • Visual Presentation: Manage and set up visual equipment such as projectors, screens, and displays to ensure clear, accurate visual presentations. Adjust resolution, aspect ratios, and video playback settings.
  • Lighting Control: Control and adjust event lighting, creating the appropriate atmosphere to match the event’s theme and content.
  • Live Streaming and Recording: Oversee live streaming setups for hybrid or virtual events, ensuring smooth broadcasting to remote participants. Handle recording for later distribution.
  • Setup and Testing: Set up and test all audio and visual equipment before events, ensuring proper functioning and calibration for optimal performance.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and inspections of AV equipment, ensuring everything is in good working condition and ready for use.
  • Timing and Coordination: Work with event organizers and technical staff to ensure smooth timing and coordination of audio and visual cues, facilitating seamless transitions during events.
  • Adaptability: Be flexible in managing last-minute changes to presentations, equipment failures, or setup adjustments.
  • Remote Support and Monitoring: Use remote management tools to monitor AV systems, performing troubleshooting and diagnostics remotely, when possible, to minimize disruptions.
  • Quality Assurance Testing: Perform quality assurance checks on AV equipment, ensuring they meet performance standards and user expectations.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records for support activities, service tickets, inventory, and maintenance schedules. Produce reports on support metrics, service trends, and system performance.
  • Compliance and Security: Ensure all AV activities comply with university policies, standards, and regulations, including data privacy and cybersecurity.
  • User Experience Enhancement: Continuously assess opportunities to enhance the user experience with AV technology. Gather feedback, analyze user needs, and recommend upgrades or new technologies.
  • User Training and Education: Conduct training sessions to educate employees on effective use of AV systems, troubleshooting common issues, and maximizing system capabilities for collaboration and presentations.
