Challenges for 2022

This year, the Anant Technology Prize has identified three challenges for which technological solutions are invited from eligible applicants. The challenges are:

Sustainable mobility for the student’s family

Domestic waste sent to landfills in the student’s city

Making effective climate predictions for the student’s city

The Prize

The winners will be rewarded with ₹ 1,00,000 and a direct entry into the final round of interviews for the Bachelor of Technologies degree specialising in Climate Change at Anant National University. They will have the opportunity to further develop their solutions at the state-of-the art Climate Lab and be part of the MIT Solve global network.

About Bachelor of Technology Programme

Eligibility for Anant Technology Prize

  • Those who have passed 10+2 examination with Physics/ Mathematics / Chemistry/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Biology/ Biotechnology (any three).
  • The applicant must have obtained at least 70% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved categorv) in the above subiects taken together.
  • Applicants to the Anant Technology Prize can apply either as individuals or in groups.

Jury Academy

Dr. Alexander Dale
Alexander is the Lead for MIT Solve’s Sustainability and US Communities. He oversees Solve’s annual Challenges on climate, food, energy, and infrastructure, along with Solve’s equity-focused US work, including the ongoing Indigenous Communities Fellowship and 2021’s Antiracist Technology Challenge. He has an academic background in the life-cycle impacts of energy and water infrastructure, and a professional background in environmental policy, engineering education, and nonprofit management. Alexander has held previous roles as the Executive Director of Engineers for a Sustainable World and as a AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow hosted by the US EPA’s Transportation and Climate Division.

Dr. Ezhil Subbian
Ezhil is ​​the CEO & Co-Founder of String Bio Pvt. Ltd. She is a biotechnologist driven by a passion to leverage the power of biology to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions. Her experience in biobased product development over the last 20 years helps her bring deep technical expertise to the work at String. Ezhil’s work was most recently recognized with the Women Transforming India Award 2018 from United Nations/NITI Aayog.

Professor Priya Rajagopalan, PhD,MPH 
Priya is the Professor of Practice of Fox Leadership International. She has more than 20 years of experience teaching economics, public policy, quantitative methods, and marketing at Purdue University, Krannert School of Management. She received her BA in economics from the University of Madras and MA and PhD in economics from Wayne State University, Michigan. She currently serves as a team member for UNL human trafficking and migration initiative.

Miniya is the founding director of Anant School for CLimate Action and the CEO of Sustain Labs Paris, a company based out of India and France that turns around large traditional organisations to make them more sustainable. Read more.

How to apply

Students can register either individually or as a group. All registrations are to be sent on or before the 20 June 2022.

Application Process

Video: Create a 5 minute video explaining your solution for one or more of the Anant Technology Prize challenges for 2022:

i) Sustainable mobility for the student’s family,

ii) Domestic waste sent to landfills in the student’s city

iii) Making effective climate predictions for the student’s city.

The applicant can choose one or all of the challenges to provide solutions for.

 

All videos are to be uploaded to YouTube.com with the title ‘Anant Technology Prize – Name of the student/group – school name – city’. For example, if the student is named Ankita, who is studying at St Michael’s school in Guwahati, The entry would be titled ‘Anant Technology Prize – Ankita – St Michael’s – Guwahati’.

Structural guidelines for the video:

  • Introduction to the selected problem.
  • Research to support the knowledge of the problem in a local context. This includes an analysis of survey responses received from parents, teachers and community members.
  • Description of the technical solution to address the problem.
  • Brief explanation of the potential impact of the solution on the student’s city.

 

The last date for submission of the video and consent letter by the applicant is 20 June 2022.

Parameters

Entries will be judged on the parameters of knowledge, innovation and scalability of solution in survey respondents.
