Well known theatre and film actor Poonam Girdhani has a multifarious engagement with performing arts. She has worked extensively in different media such as Television, Film, Radio and Theatre. Her multilingual abilities in languages such as Urdu, Hindi, English and her mother tongue Sindhi have enabled her to participate and enrich theatrical productions arising from different theatrical milieus and traditions. Having been active in theatre since 1994, she has worked with established theatre groups of India such as Naya theatre (Director Habib Tanvir) Chingari, Asmita, Bahroop. Her international experience includes working with Heiner Muller’s group from Germany. She has been a Dastango for over ten years and has performed at Jashn-e Rekhta, Habitat, Jaipur Literature Festival and several other cities and towns of India. She partnered with Ankit Chadha to premiere several stories for children including Dastan Alice Ki and Dastan Little Prince Ki. She has compiled several folk tales and children’s tales for the Dastangoi format and have penned Dastan e irfan e Buddha and adapted Dastan Haroun ki based on Salman Rushdie’s Haroun and the sea of stories.
