Foram Bhatt

Foram Bhatt is an Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture. Her research interest lies in the field of heritage conservation delving into the study of historic urban landscapes, vernacular settlements, world heritage, traditional neighbourhoods and cultural studies. With a multidisciplinary pedagogical approach that incorporates ethnographic, archaeological and historical perspectives, Foram has also focused on researching how architectural pedagogy can be enriched by having components of learning from historical environments.

 

At Anant, Foram has taught the theme of learning from traditional neighbourhoods and community immersion programmes in the past. Her recent engagements in Foundation Year include modules such as Elements of Design, Technical Drawing, Visualisation and Representation, Materials and Processes and Properties. Foram also teaches the History of Arcuated Structures in the School of Architecture and guides students for their final year dissertations.

 

An MArch in Settlement Conservation from CEPT University and a BArch from IPSA, Saurashtra University, Foram has worked as a Research Associate, Conservation Consultant and Academician for heritage sites. Her work ranges from research, documentation, listing, designing tourism development opportunities, preparation of heritage policy, detailed project reports, etc. She has also worked as a Research Associate on the project ‘Preparation of UNESCO World Heritage Nomination Dossier for the Historic City of Ahmadabad’. Currently, Foram is pursuing an MA in World Heritage Studies (asynchronous course) from Brandenburg Technical University, Cottbus, Germany.

 

Before joining Anant, Foram was founder and partner at Credo Architects where she worked in the capacity of a consultant for historical settlements and monuments for various organisations such as Ahmedabad World Heritage City Trust, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Good Governance and Policy Analysis, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Historical and Cultural Research Centre, Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, etc. She also took self-designed courses on heritage and conservation at architecture colleges such as INDUS University, NIRMA University, IPSA and Saurashtra University.

 

Beyond academia, Foram has a deep interest in Indian classical music, documenting historical places with sketches and narrating the experience through various mediums of expression. Currently, she is learning to play Sitar.
