Archana Baghel, an Associate Professor at Anant, strongly advocates sustainable practices in architecture, exploring resilient materials like bamboo for earthquake-resistant mass housing. Archana also works towards urban planning challenges, investigating changes in the number of lakes in Ahmedabad over time and the causes of urban floods in India. Her research contributions are theoretical, and she has presented her findings at various conferences. She was honoured with a Best Paper Award for her work.
Archana also contributes to educational advancements by analysing internship practices, curriculum alignment and teaching methods in architecture education. Her multifaceted approach underscores a focus on sustainability, environmental impact, urban resilience and the enhancement of architectural education.
At Anant, Archana is a dedicated educator specialising in technical subjects, such as building construction and studios. Her courses prioritise sustainable practices and cover a variety of electives. She goes beyond traditional teaching methods by leading hands-on workshops, focusing on eco-friendly initiatives like handmade paper crafting and exploring sustainable construction techniques like rammed earth and cob.
In addition to teaching, Archana conducts study programmes that document historical architecture. With a Bachelor’s in Architecture from the School of Architecture, Anna University, Chennai, and a Master’s in Planning from the Institute of Town Planners India, New Delhi, Archana’s educational background has equipped her with a strong foundation in architectural theory and planning methodologies.
Archana started her career as an architect before transitioning into academia. She was a lecturer at the Government Engineering College and Government Girls Polytechnic in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. She was also a member of the Board of Studies at Gujarat University and the School of Architecture at Anant National University.
Beyond her academic and sustainability interests, Archana finds joy in exploring new places and immersing herself in India’s rich craft culture. She also enjoys cooking during her leisure time.
