Abhay Kanwar

Abhay Kanwar is currently pursuing a PhD in Development Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. He is interested in understanding the capability approach and researching the effects of climate change on public health, malnutrition, and environmental degradation.

Despite being visually challenged, Abhay has earned an MPhil in Planning and Development from the Indian Institute of Technology (TISS), Bombay, and an MA in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and has published several articles.

The academic thesis from his MPhil, “The Ethical Healthcare Paradigm: CSR for Equitable Access to Drugs,” was published in the Journal of Law & Medicine. The focus areas of his research include the public health consequences of climate change- induced extreme weather events, using Amartya Sen’s Capability Approach.
