Sonal Beri is an Architect and Urban Designer, and has 20 years of experience in a
wide range of projects including city planning, urban design, super tall towers, institutional buildings, custom residences and exhibition design. Sonal has a Masters in Architecture from the University of California Berkeley and a Master of Urban Design from Columbia University, New York.
Sonal has worked as a Lead Architect with esteemed Architect, Engineer and Artist Dr. Santiago
Calatrava in his New York Studio on several large-scale projects such as the multi award winning Florida Polytechnic University, in Florida, U.S.A. and Plaza and Podium for what is to be the world’s tallest tower in Dubai. Within the firm of Santiago Calatrava, Sonal co-founded a studio that focuses on an expanding multidisciplinary practise of Architecture and undertakes projects that go beyond the traditional boundaries of architecture into sculpture, interaction design, installation etc. Prior to working with Dr. Calatrava, Sonal has worked in the office of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill as both an Architect and Urban Designer.
Her work has won several international awards including the German Design Award in 2014, the Iconic Award in 2013, and the IFAI Award of Excellence 2013. She has been invited as a guest juror and has lectured extensively at schools in the United States of America including Columbia University, Harvard University, Illinois Institute of Technology etc. Her work has been featured in important design journals including Architectural Record, The New York Times – Style section, Architecture + Design etc.
